Mom is not supposed to get a head cold in JULY!!!

Who gets a head cold in July?!?!?!?!

ME!

Oh my goodness, THIS is not fun AT ALL!!  2 nights of no sleep, scratchy throat, drippy nose that you can't blow.....can't breathe means you can't sleep.....then the coughing begins.  OH MY, MY LUNGS ARE ON FIRE!!!!  Lack of a better word this SUCKS!

Thank God for Grandma!  Jody was able to come over for 2 days to do some "mommy duties" when I was trying to take a steamy bath or shower, trying to sleep, and pump.

When I first had started to get sick I tried to call the doctor (on my way to work) to see what I could do without sabotaging my breast milk.  Well, good thing I didn't have step because they didn't get back to me until the end of the day.  I had decided if something was safe to take while I was pregnant- it should be safe when I am breastfeeding.

Isla has been a trooper (like she can be anything else).  Although, I could have gone with less times waking up for someone to feed....especially when she normally sleeps though the night (this is when I really needed her to do that).  OH WELL!

On the mend......hopefully, that is if my lungs don't go down in ashes..... :(

A FEW DAYS LATER........

We took Isla to the doctor on Monday to make sure if there was anything we could do to prevent or help in case I had decided to share.  Unfortunately, there wasn't too much we were going to be able to do.  Besides know that if she did catch Mom's cold that it would be a lesser version.  Sure enough, she was getting stuffy, decided to start coughing (a mucus-y full liquid-y cough).....THEN the rumbling in her chest started.  No temperature, but know that we have taken it constantly.

So, we have spent LOTS of time in the bathroom with the hot shower running to make the room really steamy.  And we just hang out.  Hoping it helps loosen some of the gunk from little Isla's body.

AND!!!!!  Poor Daddy caught the cold too!  I'm sorry my little family.  I was trying to do everything I could not to let anyone else catch this cold.  I was Lysol-ing the areas where I knew I was contaminating when I was sick.  Even kicked Dad downstairs so he wouldn't be around the gunk so he could be healthy......But it still didn't work.

Hopefully everyone will be healthy again in the next couple of days.

Taking Shots like a pro!

My baby girl is ONE TOUGH CHICK!!  The nurses came in to give her the 2 month shots.  3 shots in the legs and 1 orally.  Isla was given her shots.  Yes her face turned bright RED and she had a little squeal.  But when I picked her up.  She was quiet and just looked around.  The nurses said that normally the children scream for quite some time.

Isla with her "battle" wounds...all bandaged up after her appointment (and sleeping--I will just let her sleep).

Isla's Baby Shower 2

On Tuesday July 16, 2013 Isla had a special day put on by Mommy's co-workers.

The shower was held right after work.  Mom was suppose to leave early to go pick up Isla at Daycare. But Grandma said she would love to pick her up at daycare (Plus, it would be nice to see the daycare when it isn't an emergency). Love her! So, Grandma switched Mom cars to pick Isla up at daycare and brought Isla to her shower!!  Such an amazing Grandma to do that.  We are so thankful!!!

The shower was held at Mom's Boss' house.  They had LOTS of food ready.  And we all enjoyed the family seating at the table for supper.  After the meal we all sat in the living room to open presents. Isla and her Mommy are 2 SPOILED ladies.  And I mean that in only the best way.

After the shower I was thankful for the van, and the storage I had with it for all of the goodies.  And for Dad helping to unload afterwards.  He was excited to see all the goodies when we were unloading and was asking who got this and who got that.  IT was nice.

Isla and Mom are so Thankful to have such wonderful people in our lives.

Picture of Isla and Mom when we got home from the shower.

We were bummed that we forgot our camera when we were talking about the shower.  And, so did everyone else we asked the day after.  We were just all so excited!  None the less it was great!

Saying Goodbye to a great longtime friend

July 20, 2013

We said  Goodbye to one of Janet's  (my) best friends who had been thru literally everything with her.  And I do mean almost everything.  Dominique had been with me since I was in the 6th grade (I am now 28 years old).

Dominique.

The farm cat that Dean let Janet bring home so many years ago.  THE ONE AND ONLY TIME batting the eye lashes and saying "Please Daddy" ever worked.

We will miss you Dom!!

Date night!!

Maceo and I had our first DATE NIGHT!!  Miss Isla had spent the night at Grandma and Grandpa Hamer's and Mom and Dad hit the town....well, kind of...

Grandma Hamer met me at my work to pick up Isla in the morning.  I didn't plan on calling at all but she sent the cutest picture of Grandpa and Isla I had too!

(let's see if I remember to post that picture here)

Then I had to call because I found THEE best deal!  I purchased 222 diapers, 3 skirts, pj's and a onesie for less than 30 bucks including tax!!!!!  I had to brag.  I love deals!!!

Anyways, I worked all day, went home, picked up Maceo.  He had some plans to go to a bar to check out some old cars and eat sushi in Des Moines.  As we were going to go check out the bar we passed a taco truck.  Decided that our old taco place took a turn for the worse.  Why not try this since we don't have Isla?  THEY WERE AMAZING!!!!  The only other thing that would have made that better was horchata..sp??  We then drove a little farther there was another taco truck they had horchata!  YUCK!!!  The tacos (for a lack of a better word) SUCKED!!!  AND so did the horchata!  We decided to stop.  We found a new replacement and  both of us agree you can't get better than that...well unless they decided to do horchata.

We made it to the bar...and decided to keep driving there were no old cars to look at.

We then headed to downtown where we ate sushi (the place was ok, but I would say over priced).  And enjoyed some adult beverages BEER!!!  Well, we each only had one, but when you aren't used to drinking you feel pretty good with just one.

Then we strolled thru some stores before heading back to Ankeny.  Once back we needed gas, as Maceo was pumping gas I was looking for this Movie he wanted to see.  We had just enough time to go home (so I could pump) and go to the movie.  It was great!

The movie was over close to 11:30. We still had 3 dollars from what we allotted.  So we went to Quick Trip to get some pop before heading home to bed!   FYI I had less sleep with Isla not here than if she were....NOT because I was worried but because we decided to look up dogs on youtube....

The next morning I headed up to Story City to pick Miss Isla up and hang out with Grandma Jody.  Dad was busy doing class things so we were going to take our time.  We decided to have a "girls" day.  So we went to Ames to go out to eat.  We ate at Odd Fellows-Jody's Tenderloin was HUGE!!!  I wish I would have taken a picture of that.  Afterwards we were going to check out TJ MAXX it hadn't been open too long.  To see if there were any goodies that we couldn't live with out.

Isla started to make a tiny fuss, which is not like her at all.  So, I was just going to pick her up because she had been in her car seat for a while.  I picked her up and noticed a smell which is easy to tell what happened.  I thought she had just filled her diaper.  I pulled her close and then realized I had some wet feelings against my stomach.  I then knew what had happened.... BIG BLOW OUT!!!  We found our way to the restroom where I eventually had to BATHE my child for the amount of poop everywhere.  And I was upset because there wasn't a changing station.  SERIOUSLY!?!?!

I should take notes...Isla made out like a bandit becuase Grandma purchased new outfits because she blew out.  Although, I did get a couple of thing too.  Very thankful!  And Isla was once again in cute clothes.

Week of Firsts

We began this week with the ending to our First family vacation.  Then there was Isla's First day at daycare and Mom's First day back at work. And then we will be ending this week with Isla's First Overnight with out Mom or Dad.  As well as, Mom and Dad's First Date with out Isla.

This week was very emotional (Especially for Mom).  Mom wasn't really quite ready to let her little girl go.  But it is time for growing and a time to socialize for both.  Yes, some tears (A LOT OF TEARS) were shed (By Mom as you can tell in the picture) Isla did great at daycare each day!! And her teachers are wonderful!!

It's ok Mom I will have fun

Isla's Teachers Tiffany (holding Isla) and Kayla in the background

Grandma Hamer had offered to watch Isla on Saturday while Mom was at work, because Dad is finishing up on classes, so he could study and get class projects done (the final stretch). Dad said to see if they would like to have a sleep-over and we could have a date night.   So, we will have our First Sleep-over with the grandparents!!  He better have something planned for our First time away from Isla for more than 10 hours!!  Mom doesn't want to just sit at home...otherwise she will just be cleaning and could have done that with Isla around.  We'll have to see how that goes...(I am sure it will be fine)

(A little on edge...this is a lot of First's for Mom to handle, but I am sure we can do it!!)

Our Fourth of July!!!

HAPPY 4th OF JULY

First let me say that the 4th of July is my favorite holiday.  I know most people love Christmas, Halloween, etc.  But for myself I love THE 4TH OF JULY!!!  For the fact that it is the ONLY HOLIDAY Maceo and I  have always spent together, even with deployments he was always home for the 4th of July.

Our destination of choice Omaha, NE--I never thought I would say that about a town in Nebraska.  It is a place where we (Maceo and I) have gone since we started dating, kind of a tradition.  This year Isla, accompanied us (like we would leave her).

Day 1: Our first stop Michael's for TACOS!!!!  YUMMY YUMMY YUMMY YUMMY!!!!!!!

This is OBVIOUSLY after we had eaten a few tacos.

Isla did well, she slept thru it.  But she was excited when she was able to enjoy it later on.  ;)

After we had our fill of Tacos, which is really hard, they are sooooooo good.  We drove over to see the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge. We walked across it and got some fun pictures.  It connects Iowa and Nebraska together!  Pretty cool!!

Walking up to the bridge

Isla and I in 2 states at once!!

The Omaha skyline!

We walked all the way from Nebraska to Iowa on the longest Bridge connecting 2 states!!  YAHOO!!!

It was hot when we were walking on the Bridge but Isla does everything in style.  One thing that I had told Maceo we NEEDED to get for Isla before we left for Omaha was a fan.  AND IT CAME IN HANDY, almost every day.

Can you say Pampered!?!?!?!
(Yes her shirt says "every girl needs a little sparkle")

We we walked back to Nebraska we stopped into the Lewis and Clark Landing Site Office.  Isla and Mom were excited it was cooler...having 2 heaters together is rough on a hot day.  Especially if the little heater needs milk from the bigger heater.  We were able to check out the route of Lewis and Clark, as well as, some of the skins and things they traded.  We also watched a 25 minute film (Isla made it thru almost the whole movie).  We wandered the hall and even dressed up!!

Isla was captivated by the film (almost the whole time)

Playing Dress up
Isla was less amused

We checked into our hotel let some people rest a bit before we tried to go to Cabela's for Dad (they were closed before we made it there).  So we decided to try to find a Target because we needed a few things.  Before we headed back to the hotel I said we should check out this place.

The Holy Family Shrine

This does't even do justice to how beautiful it was
We also made it here after everything was closed, but we decided we would walk around and see

It was HUGE!!

Happy little lady with her Daddy

And her Mommy

 Beautiful!

From the other side still Beautiful!

 Our Sunset

"Seriously, I am so over pictures"

My two loves watching the sunset

 FAMILY SUNSET PICUTES

Yeah, we are going to go!  I have had enough excitement for one day!

When we were back at the hotel.  We were just winding down for the night and hear boom, crack, boom, etc...  Thinking it was just people setting off fireworks.  But it was too consistent to be that.  We looked out the window from our hotel and there was a show going on!!  Not the fireworks show that Omaha is known for (they had that on the 3rd), but they had quite the showing RIGHT IN FRONT OF US!!  Well off a ways but we had the best view from indoors!

Day 2
I will spare you another picture of the Michael's Tacos.....THEY WERE DELICIOUS!!!!

We decided to go to the Train Museum to check out the trains and Sue

Just hanging out before we get this party started

Such a happy girl

Sooooo Scared!!!  AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
(Well, I guess it could just be a yawn but too perfect with Sue in the Background.)

Later that day.... We also love Springfield, NE (well not the town, but what is just outside of town) for Soaring Wings Winery. LOVE IT!!!!  Isla and I wearing our matching dresses and Dad in a coordinating top.  Listened to the music (which wasn't the best)  enjoyed our company, and enjoyed the sun setting.  I was the only one enjoying the wine.  Dad said that he had 9 months he was able to drink when I wasn't (what a great guy!!).  We had just did the tastings anyways...equals about 2 full glasses, and when Mom was done we left, but not before buying a few bottles to take home with us!!

Day 3:
On our way home we stopped at an air museum
